Cartel ALFA to picket Finance Ministry, presses for social protection measures Bucharest,
Jan 25 /Agerpres/ -
Starting this Monday, the National Trade Union Confederation (CNS) Cartel ALFA will be picketing the Ministry of Finance Bucharest headquarters daily for one week, Confederation president Bogdan Iuliu Hossu told a press conference. The manifestations will be staged from January 25 to 29, between 10.00-12.00, with the participation of members of the federations affiliated to CNS Cartel ALFA, from fields such as public services, metallurgy, siderurgy, transports, machine building, mining, light industry and chemistry. Cartel ALFA requires Prime Minister Emil Boc and the Government of Romania to identify, as a matter of urgency, application methods of the common unions/employers' associations request that the measures stipulated under Article 2 of the Governmental Emergency Ordinance No. 28/2009 on the regulation of social protection measures, approved with amendments and additions by Law 268/2009, be extended. 'We explicitly request that all legal provisions included in the above-mentioned acts referring to the short time work scheme granting should be applied throughout the entire 2010 year, given that, against the backdrop of a worsening economic situation, social protection measures must become a priority in order to soften the economic crisis' effects, which are already acutely hurting the employees throughout the country,' declares Hossu. If the Ministry of Finance and the Government do not settle the trade unionists' claims, the picketing action may be extended on an indeterminate period of time.
